Remix, leaders in the manufacture of dry mix mortar, has supported the construction of 140 new dwellings by Bovis Homes by providing its factory produced mortar and its innovative silo mixing station.
Hopfields is a major residential development by Bovis Homes located in Ledbury, Herefordshire. The scheme comprises a mix of two, three and four-bedroom houses and bungalows, designed to suit a wide range of buyers. Set within a picturesque market town near the Malvern Hills, the development combines countryside living with excellent connectivity and access to local amenities, transport links, and schools.
Delivered as a multi-phase housing scheme, Bovis Homes required a consistent and scalable approach to masonry works across the large number of plots. With a strong focus on build quality, programme efficiency and modern construction standards, maintaining uniformity in both workmanship and materials presented a key challenge.
Remix supported the project by providing its silo mortar mixing station alongside natural coloured mortar, ensuring both operational efficiency and a high-quality finished appearance. The silo system enabled mortar to be produced on demand directly on site, eliminating the need for manual mixing and significantly improving productivity. It also helped to reduce waste and maintain a clean and safe working environment.
Alongside the operational benefits, Remix supplied natural coloured mortar, enhancing the overall aesthetic of the development. Mortar plays a significant role in the visual impact of brickwork, accounting for a substantial proportion of a wall’s visible surface area and influencing how the finished homes are perceived. The use of natural coloured mortar ensured a consistent, high-quality finish across all plots, complementing the chosen brick types and helping to create a cohesive streetscape throughout the development.
The controlled production process associated with silo-mixed mortar also ensured accurate colour consistency across the site, preventing variation between batches and supporting the developer’s design intent. This was particularly important on a phased development, where maintaining visual continuity across different build stages is essential to achieving a premium, uniform appearance.
The completed Hopfields development stands as a well-executed example of modern residential construction, combining sustainability, design quality and efficient delivery. Remix’s provision of both its silo mixing station and natural coloured mortar contributed to improved productivity on site while enhancing the aesthetic finish of the homes. This project demonstrates Remix’s capability to support large-scale housing developments with solutions that deliver both operational and visual value, helping housebuilders achieve consistent, high-quality results at scale.
